Archive for March, 2011

Our March meeting was hosted by our own STL Hort member John. He did a fantastic job leading the group with terrarium making. We used gravel, charcoal, coffee filters, soil, and a variety of small animals and decorations. Everyone chose their terrarium plants and decided where to place them for best presentation. They were all beautiful!! Everyone enjoyed getting their hands dirty after such a long winter. We had refreshments and an assortment of attendance prizes. Thanks John for such a great meeting!

We will have Kathy, our flower arranger, at our April meeting. Check back for details!

March 20,2011, Sunday: 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm, Garden Room, Missouri Botanical Garden

Welcome Hort members to spring and nicer weather! Our first meeting will be hosted by John Gregory. He is going to lead us with an exciting activity, terrariums!  John will have a hands on presentation on the proper way to assemble a terrarium and all members are invited to participate and make one of their own.

Please bring a clear container, glass or plastic, of your choice that is approximately 1 – 2 gallons with a removable lid and an opening big enough to get your hand in. Glass containers make beautiful terrariums!  John has a limited number of plastic containers for those who do not have one. The Hort Club will furnish gravel, potting mix, charcoal and 4 little plants that like moisture for all members that sign up. Bring some decorations for your terrarium like small figurines or rocks, whatever you like.

Dorie has found some interesting handouts on terrariums that will be available.

An RSVP is required so we know how much plant material to bring.
Contact John 314 781-3051 if you have any questions and to sign up for this fun activity. Deadline to sign up is March 13,2011.

Attendance prizes and refreshments always welcome!
